I hope I die before I get old

Quick reminder about how the elderly, especially aging baby-boomers, will soon devastate the American economy if nobody does anything about Social Security and Medicare in the next ten years.

Mostly a photo-op, some good

Here's a review of the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center last Tuesday. I wasn't able to make it, but the hoopla over people rather than the music would only have annoyed me in any case. However, I am quite glad to hear that the orchestra is receiving better instruments and new scores for their music library.

[Add: The Telegraph today has a slightly more upbeat review about the evening. Oddly, the reporter has very little to say about the actual music.]

One-third of American-trained Iraqi army quits.

Well, so much for training an army of Iraqis to take over the security job.

Progressives Rock!

The people behind the Novak site are the Progressive Majority.

From their homepage: "For too long, progressives have either been silent -- or needlessly defensive -- in important debates over what matters. That era is over."

I'm glad to know the era of needless defensiveness has ended. I, for one, was getting a little annoyed at those testy progressives.

They've also got a page where you can sign a petition to recall Bush. You can even contribute money to the recall effort. The small print: "While America does not have a provision in its constitution for a presidential recall, it does have the voice of the people and the power to send George Bush packing."

Is there anything more beautifully left-wing that donating money to a symbolic recall?

Plame Redux

Mr. Wilson continued his effort to protect his wife by trotting her out in public and putting themselves in Vanity Fair. Meanwhile, leftwing 527s, designed to get around McCain-Feingold, are coming after my boss: http://www.bustbob.com/petition/
