Where have I been? Okay, so why haven't I heard anything before today about this solar blast coming toward Earth? Seems like interesting news to me. Anyone know what's up with this? Thursday, October 23, 2003
Generation W Interesting poll result. I wonder how many college girls thought W was hot in his flight suit... Re: Representin' I was very impressed with Mohammad's opening argument and am sad to see that he's no longer defending himself. He challenged my opinion of what "Truth" really means. As for the cookie allegory, its clear that when people saw him shooting innocent individuals they forgot to consider the possibility that he was actually unshooting them. Wednesday, October 22, 2003
Hawkish Liberals James Atlas, biographer of Saul Bellow and Delmore Schwartz, had a good article last weekend in the N.Y. Times about several notable liberals who supported or were ambivalent about Gulf War II and where they stand now. He calls them neo-neoconservatives, but they look more like old-school anti-communist liberals to me. Re: Representin' It looks like Muhammad will let the professionals take over his defense. We may never learn the meaning of the cookie allegory in Muhammad's opening statements. DFW returns to the Infinite This Guardian article offers a brief review of two books about infinity, one by a guy named Clegg and the other the long-awaited Cantor book by David Foster Wallace. I'll have to investigate whether the latter has been released in the States yet. I'm not too happy, though, to see that DFW runs down my boy the Stagyrite (a.k.a. the master of those who know, or, more simply, "the Philosopher"). [add.: It looks like I'm a little late on the draw. According to the DFW fan site, Howling Fantods, the release date of Everything and More was October 15th. I hadn't been to the site in a while, but if you're interested there is an interesting link there from May to an article about the first draft of Infinite Jest that DFW aficionados might find worth reading.] Tuesday, October 21, 2003
Scotland Project Continues On NRO today is my latest piece on the Senior Senator from Pennsylvania. Last month, Congress passed an emergency supplemental bill dealing with forest fires, floods and the like. Arlen Specter thought that would be a good chance to use taxpayer dollars address oral hygiene in Philadelphia. Monday, October 20, 2003
Life Imitating N.W.A. Records A suit against Eminem has been dismissed by a rapping judge. Nod your head with the beat: 'Mr Bailey complained his rep is trash, so he's seeking compensation in the form of cash. 'Bailey thinks he's entitled to some monetary gain, because Eminem used his name in vain. 'The lyrics are stories no one would take as fact, they're an exaggeration of a childish act. 'It is therefore this court's ultimate position, that Eminem is entitled to summary disposition.' The Pope and Life In my latest Brainwash piece, I try to articulate what John Paul II, now celebrating 25 years of Popehood, means by "a culture of life." In an effort to ruffle some conservative feathers, I include capital punishment and war in with abortion and euthanasia in the "culture of death." For good measure, here's Evangelium Vitae (Gospel of Life). 08/31/2003 - 09/06/2003 09/07/2003 - 09/13/2003 09/14/2003 - 09/20/2003 09/21/2003 - 09/27/2003 09/28/2003 - 10/04/2003 10/05/2003 - 10/11/2003 10/12/2003 - 10/18/2003 10/19/2003 - 10/25/2003 10/26/2003 - 11/01/2003 11/02/2003 - 11/08/2003 11/09/2003 - 11/15/2003 11/16/2003 - 11/22/2003 11/23/2003 - 11/29/2003 11/30/2003 - 12/06/2003 12/07/2003 - 12/13/2003 12/14/2003 - 12/20/2003 12/21/2003 - 12/27/2003 |
